Phoebe Gates, the daughter of Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates, urged her fans to consume fashion sustainably on her Instagram on August 24.
The 19-year-old eco-activist has teamed up with Annie’s Ibiza, a vintage designer rental, and penned a long post about the importance of sustainable shopping. An excerpt from the post’s caption describing her love of practicing green fashion reads, “I personally love exploring my style and it’s a great way to practice sustainable fashion while incorporating new pieces. “
The fashionista borrowed looks from a handful of impressive designers, styling and snapping photos of complete ensembles for her followers. The slideshow of images begins with Gates wearing a tan plaid pleated dress which she paired with a tan fleece-lined puffer jacket. The first look saw the Central Saint Martens graduate wearing Golden Goose sneakers flecked with gold glitter and adorned with their signature white star.
Look at two Gates pictured in a chainmail dress by Paco Rabanne, a silhouette famous for the brand, the piece made up of discs in neutral tones looping to create a partially transparent ensemble.
The last outfit borrowed was a pink suede “Tea 4 2” Moschino midi dress with gold appliqués on the front that mimic the style’s name, along with a campy pink, blue and gold teacup-patterned bodice. The garment is quite rare and the quirky style embodies the brand’s enchanting spirit and unusual but often impressive design prowess under the direction of Jeremy Scott.
Gates paired the vintage designer item with nude sandals. A stylish staple during the warmer months, many stiletto sandals feature a simple chunky strap over the toes and a closure strap around the ankle to hold the shoes in place, creating a barely there construction. The heel of a stiletto sandal is often 4 inches or more, which adds height and length for a flattering silhouette.
