The family of the 18-year-old on suspicion of pulling a gun at school and opening fire say he has been bullied because of his financially “blessed” life.
Timothy George Simpkins was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly shooting a gun at Timberview High School in Arlington. Simpkins turned into a cop on Wednesday, The New York Post reports.
But his family members say he only bought the gun to protect himself after being bullied due to his affluent lifestyle. Simpkins lives in a $ 400,000 house with his grandmother, Lillie, and drives a $ 35,000 2018 Dodge Charger, as Noted through Daily mail.
Simpkins’ family say the bully has constantly tormented him, and they are surprised that he did not attempt to kill himself. Instead, the teenager fired a .45 caliber handgun during a fight with another student.
“It could have been a decision that he could have committed suicide… he was trying to protect himself.” They’ve been blessed financially, ”a cousin named Cint Wheat said on Facebook.
His family say he was robbed and harassed by other students at the school before resorting to gun violence. They also say the school was made aware of the bullying that had taken place, but nothing was done.
“He was robbed. It was recorded. It didn’t happen once, it happened twice. He was scared, he was scared, ”said Carol Harrison-Lafayette, who said she was a relative speaking on behalf of the Simpkins family.
“We have to take into account that the bullying is real. And it takes us all. And I apologize. As a family, we ask forgiveness for any type of injury, ”added Harrison-Lafayette.
“He was able to get things that other teenagers can’t have, because he wore nice clothes, because he drove nice cars, he was like a target,” she said before describing Simpkins as an “outgoing and loving person”, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
