JIVE Juice Partners With HEB To Distribute Black Owned Juice Brand

A black-owned juice company named JIVE Juice recently partnered with HEB to distribute their homemade healthy juice, the company recently announced via its Facebook page.

The partnership with HEB will include JIVE Juice in over 50 different stores in Houston and surrounding areas.

Company founder Tamala Austin is a health coach who helps individuals, including children and the elderly, achieve their health goals. Austin runs group workshops, as well as one-on-one consultations. She also organizes delicious lunches.

This partnership isn’t the only time this company has made waves in the industry, either. In 2018, when their product was picked up by Whole Foods, JIVE Juice became the first black-owned juice company to be marketed by the store.

“It’s great to be able to lead the way and open the door for other black people to be in that kind of space,” Austin said.

The company was also recognized by Governor Greg Abbott during the 2019 State of the State Address, where Tamala Austin was recognized for her work as a woman entrepreneur.

In addition, she was honored in 2016 by the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, where they were greeted with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Originally, JIVE Juice was a part-time juice delivery service run by Austin and his daughter Alexis. Now, as a product marketed by both Whole Foods and HEB, the company distributes throughout Houston, as well as parts of Louisiana.

“We’ve been doing this since about 2013 in our kitchen,” Austin recalls. “Initially, we didn’t want to be retail, but the opportunity was there and we were ready.

When diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2013, Austin began her health journey. Ultimately, this would lead her to research and experiment with the juice in the hopes of finding a practical way to get the health benefits of fruits and vegetables.

As a single mom, she also reflected on the age-old struggle: how can I get my child to eat more fruits and vegetables? This led Austin to do more research in order to create a healthy juice for adults that would appeal to children.

“It helps with my health issues,” Austin explained, “and it helps my daughter get good nutrients into her body.”

Austin is also hoping that the company will eventually be able to distribute nationally thanks to the momentum the company has gained from working with HEB. Austin says JIVE Juice should be available in 100 stores by the end of the year.

“We want to make the juice fun,” Austin said. “Juice doesn’t have to be boring and it doesn’t have to taste bad. It can be good and good for you.

More information about JIVE juice can be found through their website, as well as their Facebook page.
