…and other fashion news you missed, including Bella Hadid’s new clothing line and Raf Simons’ ravey, full of rompers London show
Many people reading this probably weren’t born when Madonna entered Eva. Perón’s shoes in the 1996 musical Avoided. The living, breathing legend – who recently traveled the world ‘going out’ on TikTok, showed up to the CSM grad show with a suitcase and really wanted to know why we have ‘a fucking problem with tomatoes’ – said was praised for her role as an Argentine politician and activist, and she herself won a Best Actress Golden Globe in the process. And now it looks like she has another musical on the way.
Taking to TikTok once again as part of a live session with platform personality Terri Joe, the musician sang a few lines from a song that expresses her feelings about Balenciaga. “I wrote a song about Balenciaga called ‘Why is Balenciaga so expensive?’ she said to Terri, before launching straight into a verse. “Why is Balenciaga so expensive? / Why is Balenciaga so expensive? (That’s French!) / Why doesn’t Balenciaga ever give me a discount? / Why is Balenciaga the only thing I wear? » before saying that she “thought to make a musical of it”.
Not only does she make some points, but we’re obviously way behind on the idea of Balenciaga: the musical. And with Demna joining forces with the masterminds behind The simpsons for AW22, which means next season won’t see him teaming up with Madonna for a special music show. The question, however, is who will play who? There’s Demna himself to cast, as well as longtime wife Lotta Volkova, runway favorite Eliza Douglas and Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa and Nicole Kidman to consider. One thing we do know for sure, though, is that Jared Leto seems to have no rest until he’s played all the stellar names in fashion – catch him as Francois-Henri Pinault soon on a stage near you (probs).
In other news this week, Raf Simons was finally able to stage his SS23 show at London’s Printworks and Thebe Magugu unveiled a beautiful new collection and accompanying film. For more on what happened to you, click through the gallery below.
