This summer, surf lifestyle brand Ola Canvas is taking over the Aztech Mountain store in TriBeCa at 42 Hudson Street for its first retail experience.
Founded by Eric Sheehan and Andrew Atkinson in 2018, Ola Canvas began offering a limited run of canvas bags before expanding into clothing and accessories. The brand also collaborated with Sean Woolsey Studio to create a canvas bomber lounge chair.
Ola moved into the Aztech Mountain store this week for temporary residency, which will allow the space to stay open all summer. Aztech is a brand primarily for cold weather. Ola marketed her clothes on the space’s wooden shelves and fixtures and will be launching new products throughout the residency. The mark is expected to remain until Labor Day.
Co-founders Sheehan and Atkinson created the brand from their passion for surfing as well as their background in fashion. Sheehan previously worked at Hugo Boss, heading the company’s retail travel division, and Atkinson spent 14 years at Hurley, most recently serving as global design director.
“Bringing our West Coast brand to New York, my current home, is not only a natural fit, but a strategic one,” Sheehan said. “We believe there is a real trend towards in-person shopping, and while we’ve been largely direct with consumers, it’s a chance to engage with a new clientele who may not be familiar with Ola. Canvas Andrew and I always knew we had a client in New York, so we thank Aztech for the opportunity.
Outside of this store, Ola is available primarily in West Coast specialty stores and online.
