Keahra Mudalige, a well-known stylist and online fashion personality, was born in Sri Lanka but moved to Dubai as a child and grew up there for 25 years. She has always been at the forefront of fashion, experimenting and trying to find new styles. Her sense of style is an exciting balance of feminine, elegant and fashionable pieces brought together. In conversation with Brunch, she shared that she cherished the memories of growing up in a multicultural city with the opportunity to experience different traditions, fashion trends and cuisines.
Keahra holds a Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree from the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. She told us that her family owns a Far Eastern restaurant in Dubai, which allowed her to gain first-hand experience in the food and beverage industry, while working on marketing projects. and on coordinating events while studying at university.
She eventually returned to Sri Lanka in 2017 and co-founded Platter Parties with her mother, after noticing a lack of gourmet dining concepts in Sri Lanka. She was also involved with King of the Mambo during their pre-opening and was the brand ambassador for its first year in business.
Currently, Keahra is one of the Brand Ambassadors for Nail Spa, Sri Lanka. She is also the woman behind the popular Colombo Street Style Instagram page. The page currently focuses on food, fashion, and Sri Lanka vacation getaways.
Speaking to him about her personal style, she explained that it has changed with the trends over the years. In the past, she was a big fan of high-end brands like Zara and BCBG Max Azria, but after returning to Sri Lanka her style adapted to suit the climate. Commenting on her current sense of style, Keahra said, “I would say casual fashion is my favorite. I have come to love a few local brands and am always on the lookout for flowy pants and dresses to stay cool and comfy. For her, comfort is something she takes seriously into consideration when choosing an outfit. Right now, she told us that she also felt she was moving towards more printed outfits to merge the vibrant colors to keep up with the tropical climate.
Personal style changes and evolves as you grow up. According to her, it’s important to embrace these changes while staying in the current trends that reflect her personality. When it comes to shopping for clothes, she mentioned that she prefers traditional retail shopping because it allows her to examine the fabrics in person. “An outfit that looks great in the photos may not suit me or my body shape. Try them out first, then buy them, that’s my motto, ”she added. She also added that people should always go for colors and cuts that complement their skin tone and body shape.
Another helpful buying tip she shared was that when purchasing a new item, think about how the purchase can be expanded through the mix-and-match approach with items you want. we already have it in our wardrobe. “Spend time going through your wardrobe every three to six months mixing and matching the outfits you currently have and getting rid of what you don’t need to create your seasonal capsule wardrobe,” she explained.
Style is a personal taste, and Keahra believes that one should always feel comfortable and confident in whatever outfit one chooses to adorn, no matter the time of day or the type of occasion. She added that it is important that when making a purchase, the first thing to do is pay attention to the fabric, the fit and the finish.
Keahra’s social media portrays her life while being impeccably stylish, vibrant and colorful; from everyday looks to travel items, promoting its brands, lifestyle and fashion.
For her, it is essential to create her style by trying on the clothes they have in their wardrobe. “Have your own mini fashion show in front of the mirror; it will help you to really know your comfort point with your personal fashion style, ”she advised.
