KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – Two teenagers are in hospital and a suspect is on the run after a shooting in Kalamazoo on Tuesday.
This happened around 4 pm on W. Dutton Street near S. Westnedge Avenue.
A group of teenagers were walking down the street when a man wearing dark clothes and a ski mask started shooting at them, said Chief Vernon Coakley of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Two boys in the group were shot dead, Coakley said. While the chief initially said the two were 13, officials clarified on Wednesday that they were 15 and 17.
The suspect took off north, Coakley said after the shooting.
The two victims were taken to hospital. Their status was not available on Wednesday.
Coakley said the preliminary investigation leads them to believe this was an isolated incident.
